Srinagar, August 14 (GNS): Ahead of the August 15 functions, two policemen were killed and another injured in a militant attack in this Central Kashmir district on Friday. “At about 0930 hours (militants) fired indiscriminately upon a joint naka party of police and security forces at Gulshan Nagar area of Nowgam Srinagar,” a police spokesman said. A police officer told GNS the policemen were taken police hospital where two among them succumbed. He identified the slain duo as Ishfaq Ayoub and Fayaz Ahmad, both from IRP’s 20 batallion. While Ayoub had bullet wounds on right side of chest and leg, Fayaz had injuries on right thigh, he said. The injured has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf and he has bullet injuries on right hand. Later a wreath lying ceremony was held in Armed Police Complex Humhama, where floral tributes were paid to the slain duo. Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party and other parties condemned the killing of two police personnel Police in Nowgam area on Friday. PDP spokesman while conveying sympathies to bereaved families of slain police personnel has said that violence of last three decades or more has taken a heavy toll on the people in terms of death and destruction, tearing apart of the social fabric, inflicting massive economic, academic and other losses besides the irreparable loss of human lives. Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) termed the attack an inhuman act. “Violence is not a solution but a gigantic impediment that spreads hatred. In any of its manifestations, violent extremism is unacceptable in a civilized society, regardless of political, ideological or religious motivations,” the JKAP spokesman said. He observed that it is highly unfortunate and heartrending that Kashmir continues to lose precious lives to senseless violence which has only aggravated the sufferings of the people over the years. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) also strongly condemned the Nowgam Militant attack, describing it as senseless and shameful. “The attackers have no respect for human lives and are only adding to the tragedies of the ill-fated families which must be condemned by one and all,” he added, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery of the injured cop.
