Srinagar, July 8:
Local residents of several villages in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are up in arms against concerned authorities for the latter’s alleged callous attitude to erect electricity transmission poles across the areas.
A representation by a group of local residents told Kashmir Glory that several villages including Srigufwara, Khiram, Sirhama, Mahind, and Naushera of sub-division Bijbehara are without electricity poles for decades now even as the transmission lines are fixed to the rooftops of residential houses and trees.
“Most of the poles installed in the area have got damaged decades ago”, they said adding “The Power Development Department (PDD) instead of installing new poles are taking the locals on a ride by fixing the wires on residential houses and trees which only goes on to show their callous attitude towards our genuine concerns,” they said.
“The threat grows manifold once it rains as branches fall on electric wires. This gives rise to a dangerous situation as we are worried about our children who are unaware of the precautions to be taken during such precarious times,” they said adding “At many places, wires are even seen hanging within the reach of a hand.”
Alleging the authorities of sloppy attitude, they said that “Even after approaching the concerned authorities on multiple occasions we are yet to see any action being taken on ground.”
Meanwhile, the residents have sought immediate intervention of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag K K Sidha to resolve the issue on a fast-track basis.
