NC, Apni Party Condemn Killing

Srinagar, Sept 24 (GNS): National Conference and Apni Partyo on Thursday condemned the killing of prominent lawyer and television panelist Baber Qadri.

In a statement, NC vice president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the sense of tragedy was more because Baber had warned of the threat.

“The jinxed fate of Kashmir snatched many such sons of the soil from us.  I am deeply anguished to hear about the incident, more so because he had already warned about the intimidation and threats. The incident should not pass by without punishing the perpetrators of the heinous crime. I extended condolences to the bereaved family in their hour of extreme grief,” he said in the statement to GNS.

Party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar have also expressed outrage over the killing of Baber Qadri, demanding a through probe into the incident. They demanded that his killers must be brought to book and justice be delivered in his murder case. The leaders have also expressed unison with the bereaved family.

Apni Party vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir also condemned the killing, terming the incident as highly inhuman and barbaric. “The killing of a young and promising lawyer who represented members of the poorest, most marginalized parts of Kashmir at all the forums available to him, including many of the victims of conflict and their families, has a devastating impact on access to justice in Kashmir,” he said.

Mir observed that by silencing a lawyer, many victims of the conflict are also silenced. “We have been reiterating this fact that violence begets violence and use of gun will never achieve anything,” Apni

Party senior vice president remarked.

Recalling the contribution of the deceased, Mir said that his work as a social activist and a bold lawyer will always be remembered by one and all. “His contribution in promoting social values and extending a helping hand to the underprivileged sections of the society shall act as an inspiration for many bright and promising youth,” Mir said, while demanding immediate probe into his cold blooded murder and a stern action against the culprits.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Mir prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
