Srinagar, Oct 30 (GNS): Police, army’s 21RR and 92 battalion of CRPF arrested two militant associates of Lashker-e-Toiba in Handwara area of north Kashmir Kupwara district, officials said on Friday.
“On specific inputs, checkpoints were established at different locations in town Handwara. During checking at Chinar Park Handwara two persons while riding on a bike (JK09B-1827) were intercepted and apprehended by the search party when they tried to escape from the spot,” a police spokesperson said in a statement in a statement to GNS.
“They have been identified as Liyakat Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir and Aqib Rashid Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir, both residents of Hayan Trehgam Kupwara,” he said, adding, “Arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”
As per police records they were involved in providing shelter, logistic and other support to the active LeT militants besides assisting them in transporting arms and ammunition to South Kashmir, the spokesman said.
“In this connection a case vide FIR No. 363/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been initiated”. (GNS)–
