Says Democratic Space Too Sacred To Be Left Open For ‘Invaders To Maraud Or Molest It’

Srinagar, Nov 7 (GNS):  People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration on Saturday announced to “unitedly fight” the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent “too sacred space to be marauded or molested by the invaders.”

The PAGD involves seven major mainstream political forces based in Jammu and Kashmir and it took shape last month to fight for the restoration of special status embedded in Article 370 and the resolution of the larger Kashmir issue.  The alliance held a meeting with representatives of various political parties in Jammu as part of already announced agenda on weekend.

“The common thread in our thinking and there thinking was that there are all hurt by the decisions of 5 August 2019,” Sajjad Gani Lone, the spokesman of the alliance told reporters at Jammu, as per GNS correspondent.

“As much as we are hurt there, they are hurt here. We will continue this process,” he said while being flanked by Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and others.

“Apart from that we had a meeting today and one of the points of the agenda was the upcoming DDC elections. A unanimous decision was taken and that is we will fight these elections unitedly despite the abruptness of the timing,” Sajjad said.

The DDC elections have been already announced and would be help in eight phases, beginning from November 28.  “All of a sudden they spring a surprise that everything should be concluded with within a month but this space is too too sacred to be left for the invaders to invade,” Sajjad Said, adding, “This is the most sacred space in democracy and we will not allow it to be marauded or molested by the invaders. We will keep it for the future generation.”

He said the PAGD will go through the modalities and Farooq Abdullah would release the names of candidates.

“ We are all going to fight it together and whatever the modalities, we will see the new administrative rules tomorrow and (Farooq Abdullah) will release every single name by his own.” (GNS)
