GMCA Challengers-11 Romp GMCA Falcons-11 to Lift Trophy
Anantnag, Nov 11: The first-of-its-kind cricket tournament organised as part of ‘Annual Sports Meet’ here at Government Medical College concluded in this south-Kashmir district on Wednesday.
A member of the organising team said that final of the cricket tournament was held between GMCA Challengers-11 and GMCA Falcons-11.
After a fantastic contest, GMCA Challengers-11 team prevailed over GMCA Falcons-11 team to lift the title, the member said.
Opting to bat first first GMCA Falcons-11 managed to score a total of 111 in allotted 15 overs. Dr. Nawaz with his brilliant bowling spell kept the batting team in check, the member said.
In response to the set total GMCA Challengers-11 despite jolted with three early blows managed to chase down the score in penultimate over with fine batting display by skipper Dr. Adil Wani.
Wani, as per member, scored 40 runs of just 29 balls and was even ably supported by Dr. Peerzada Anzar and Dr. Nawaz.
Others players of the winning team – GMCA Challengers-11 – included; Dr. Nadeem Rashid, Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, Dr. Raja Aejaz, Dr. Nawaz, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, Dr. Peerzada Anhaar, Bilal Ahmad, Rameez, Mohammad Saleem, Ishfaq Ahmad, Dr Salman and Mohammad Majid.
The winning team was felicitated by Chief Guest to the ocassion Dr. Showket Jeelani, Principal GMC Anantnag in presence Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammad Iqbal and Chief of the event managing body Dr. Mohammad Iftikhar.
Man of the Match was awarded to Dr. Nawaz while as Dr. Peerzada Anhaar bagged ‘Man of the Series’ award.
On the concluding ceremony, Captain of the winning team Dr. Adil Wani thanked the management and Principal Medical College Anantnag Dr. Showket Jeelani for allowing the Annual Sports Meet.
Wani on the ocassion also thanked his team mates, management and manager Dr. Owais Hassan Dar for their brilliant performance and spirit throughout the tournament, the member added.
