Alleges ‘Massive Flow Of Money By Communal Forces, Its Proxies During DDC Polls’

Srinagar, Dec 29 (GNS): The Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that people of Jammu and Kashmir won’t raise “white flag despite fatal blows dealt to economy and livelihoods.”

Addressing party candidates who won the recently held District Development Council elections, Mehbooba also underlined need for dialogue between India and Pakistan for lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

She lauded the dedication of workers and party cadre who ensured the success of candidates despite “obstructions from the system, threat of arrests and massive flow of money deployed by the communal forces and its proxies”, a spokesman of the party quoted her as saying in a statement to GNS.

“This resounding success has come as a shock to those who wrote political obituaries of our party. In their arrogance they thought by not allowing me to campaign, intimidating us, arresting our leaders PDP will not perform. Ours is not just a party but a movement which will never compromise on its ideals and core political philosophy of dialogue and reconciliation,” Mehbooba said.

She emphasised that for the restoration of lasting peace in J&K dialogue is pivotal. “We will not allow Kashmir to be a battle ground but work relentlessly so that J&K acts as a bridge of peace between India and Pakistan.

Reiterating the resolve of the people of J&K and PDP to fight for the rights and dignity, she said that that no amount of coercion can force the people into submission. “We will fight for our rights. We are not the ones who will raise white flags despite fatal blows being dealt to our economy and livelihoods”, she added.

She exhorted upon the winning candidates to serve the people with all honesty and integrity. “People are reeling under the tremendous hardships and the onus and responsibility has befallen on all of you to rise up to the occasion and serve the masses,” She added.

Top leaders including Vice President A R Veeri, Nizammuddin Bhat, Asia Naqash, Farooq Andrabi, Mushtaq Ah Shah, Aijaz Ah Mir and others also attended the event. (GNS)
