Poonch, Jan 11 (GNS): Inspector General of Police, Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh on Monday said that the army and police were alert to foil any infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu.

He was on a visit to Mendhar here to review the situation arising out of militant activities in the area including the recovery of a ‘locally-made’ IED on January 10 and more arrests of the militants in the area recently.

“Police in Mendhar along with Army have achieved great success here. New militants and OGWs who were coming up have been arrested and large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them,” the top police officer of Jammu zone told reporters as per GNS.

“The mendhar area was very peaceful for the last 10-12 years with no militant activity. Attempts are being made from across to make more youth join militant ranks and send arms and ammunition to target various installations and medical facilities,” he said, adding, “Such attempts have been defeated. I congratulate the police and army for breaking these outfits. We are hopeful that we will be successful in defeating such plans in future also.”

To question, he said that police and army are also alert to any attempt of infiltration amid reports that some militants have assembled at launching pads. (GNS)
