Srinagar, Mar 8 (GNS): Forest Protection Force officials seized illicit timber from a house in Deesu Daksum area in south-Kashmir’s Annatnag district, officials said on Monday.

“On receipt of specific input about presence of illicit timber, a party led by Assistant Director FPF accompanied by Range officer concerned carried out a raid at a residential house belonging to one Mehraj Ahmad Deka in Deesu Duksum village in the district,” Deputy Director K-05 Anantnag, Nawab Magray told GNS.

“On reaching the spot, the accused locked his house and put up stiff resistance. However after hectic efforts the party succeeded in seizing the timber,” he said.

During the operation, as per the official, ‘Kail sawn timber’ 27 numbers, 18.57 Cfts, was seized from the spot.

“A casual Labourer in Forest Department is said to be involved in illicit timber trade in the area”, the official said adding that “present sting operation was aimed at capturing this wrongdoer red handed.”

He said that a case is being registered in the local police station in respect of the seizure and the services of the wrongdoer casual labourer are being terminated. (GNS)
