Airbus A220 doors to be manufactured by Bengaluru firm

The aerospace manufacturing in India is fast gathering momentum with improving infrastructure and government thrust.   Many private companies have made rapid strides in developing India as a preferred destination for aero structures, components, sub-assemblies and complex system assemblies.  Leading global Original Equipment Manufacturers have established Joint Ventures in India for the manufacturing of aerospace related parts and assemblies which find their way into many commercial and defence aircraft and helicopters.

The newest addition being the leading Aircraft manufacturer Airbus joining hands with Bengaluru based Dynamatic Technologies to manufacture all doors for the single aisle A220 family aircraft in India.  This contract not only marks a significant milestone, but also showcases the success of the Make in India initiative.

Under the agreement, Dynamatic Technologies will manufacture and assemble the cargo, passenger, and service doors along with the over-wing emergency exit doors for the A220 family aircraft (eight doors per aircraft). Aircraft doors are critical structures, incorporating advanced technologies to meet the stringent requirements for safety and overall efficiency.

This is the second contract for doors, awarded by Airbus to an Indian supplier. Earlier in 2023, Airbus gave the contract for the manufacturing of bulk and cargo doors of the A320 Family to Tata Advanced Systems Ltd.

Today, every Airbus commercial aircraft and every Airbus helicopter has critical technologies and systems designed, manufactured, and maintained in India.  Airbus in partnership with local manufacturers supports nearly 10,000 jobs in India. By 2025, this number is likely to rise to about 15,000 and the company is expected to double its procurement from India from US$ 750 mn to US $ 1.5 bn.

With a range of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometers) and seating capacity ranging from 100 to 160 passengers, A220 is ideally suited for India’s UDAN scheme, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic growth across the nation.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has hailed the partnership stating “India is steadily becoming a destination for aerospace manufacturing across the world. The largest order for the aircraft doors to Dynamatic Technologies is a great moment for Prime Minister’s Make in India, Make for the World resolve.”  The Minister further said the pro-business policies of the government are helping India become a more and more prominent aerospace manufacturing country.(PIB)
