Srinagar, Aug 5: In a significant relief to domestic electricity consumers, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has extended the Amnesty Scheme for Domestic Consumers–2022 till March 31, 2026, offering a 100% waiver on interest and surcharge for pending electricity dues as of March 31, 2025. The official order stated that consumers who have massive bills pending can pay in installments as this option is available for the them. This decision was taken by the officials in a meeting after taking all pros and cons into consideration and it was observed that many consumers are unable to pay the charges at one go and their needs and requests should be taken care of and they should be given relief.
The extension was formalized under Government Order No. 114-JKPDD of 2025, issued by the Power Development Department (PDD), and follows the approval of the Council of Ministers via Decision No. 074/14/2025 dated July 29.
The scheme will continue under the same guidelines laid out in earlier orders (103-PDD of 2022 and 47-JKPDD of 2024) but with the added benefit of a complete interest and surcharge waiver on outstanding bills.
The PDD has also clarified that no further extension will be granted beyond the new deadline. Consumers have been urged to avail the scheme within the stipulated period to avoid disconnection or legal action for non-payment. [KNT]
