Srinagar, Aug 29 : The Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) on Friday said it has registered two separate FIRs against two notorious fraudsters in connection with land fraud cases in Srinagar.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Corner—KNC, the Economic Offences Wing has booked Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Nowgam Srinagar, and Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Ismail Wani, resident of Lasjan Srinagar, for alleged cheating, forging of revenue records, and criminal breach of trust in multiple property sale deals.

In one case, a complainant woman alleged that Riyaz Ahmad Bhat sold her a piece of land measuring 1 kanal and 5 marlas at Moza Balhama against ₹25 lakh. Despite payment, the land was sold to another person and cheques issued by the accused as repayment were dishonoured.

In another complaint, both accused allegedly sold land measuring 1 kanal and 10 marlas at Balhama, Patha Chowk Srinagar to an individual for ₹73 lakh, with a sale deed registered. Later, in connivance with revenue officials, the accused fabricated records and resold the same land, grabbing the amount.

CBK said both Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Wani were also named in an earlier FIR (No. 14/2025) and had been arrested previously for similar offences.

“The Economic Offences Wing has initiated a detailed probe in both cases. Any involvement of revenue officials or other third parties will be dealt with strictly under law,” reads the statement. (KNC)
