J&K Police arrests 03 drug peddlers; Contraband substances recovered

November 06: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 03 drug peddlers in Awantipora & Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Tangmarg at a checkpoint established at Y Point Babareshi crossing intercepted a suspicious person, identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohd Ayoub Rather, resident of Nambalnar Babareshi. Upon search, 21 grams of heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, he was arrested and a case FIR No. 85/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg & Investigation has been initiated.

A police party headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora, and Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza, at a checkpoint established at Kachkoot, intercepted two suspicious persons. They have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Zaroo, son of Gh. Mohd Zaroo, resident of Sether & Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Pujteng. During their personal search, Heroin-like substance weighing 5.42 grams, Charas-powder like substance weighing 553 grams and Charas stick weighing 26.43 grams were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and a case vide FIR No. 242/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.

J&K Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking and urges the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities in their areas. Together, we can build a drug-free society.
