Srinagar: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a well organised racket involved in manufacturing and selling fake ghee and counterfeit branded household products, arresting four persons and seizing spurious goods worth several crores of rupees, reported India Today.

Police said the accused were producing and circulating fake products of leading brands, including Amul, Patanjali and Madhusudan ghee, besides Eno antacid, All Out, Veet and Tata Salt. The counterfeit items were sold across the Delhi NCR region at lower prices, posing serious risks to public health and causing losses to companies.

The action followed specific intelligence received on December 29 about the arrival of a large consignment of fake branded goods in the Uttam Nagar area. Acting on the input, Crime Branch teams laid a trap and apprehended the accused around 2.15 pm while they were receiving the consignment.

Subsequent raids led police to an illegal ghee manufacturing unit operating from the Kanjhawala industrial area. Officers found a fully functional setup used for producing and packaging fake ghee.

During the operation, police seized 1,131 litres of counterfeit ghee labelled as Amul, Patanjali and Madhusudan, 8,640 sachets of Eno, 1,200 units of All Out, 1,152 units of Veet and 3,000 kilograms of Tata Salt. Another consignment of 2,000 kilograms of Tata Salt was also recovered, along with packing machines, forged labels and fake wrappers.

Investigators said the accused procured empty containers and counterfeit packaging, prepared fake ghee using adulterated materials, and stored the products in warehouses before selling them through wholesale and retail channels.

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Copyright Act. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members linked to the network.

The main accused has been identified as Nitin Kumar of Uttam Nagar, who allegedly managed wholesale supply and ran the illegal ghee unit. The other accused were involved in retail distribution, bulk supply, and manufacturing of counterfeit household products from different locations.
