Bandipora, Feb 11: Police on Wednesday apprehended a man during routine naka checking at Baharabad area of Hajin and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from his possession.
Officials said a police party from Police Station Hajin had established a checkpoint in the area when they intercepted a suspect moving under suspicious circumstances while carrying a nylon bag. During search, police recovered approximately 5 kilograms of bhang powder and 800 grams of charas powder from the bag.
The accused has been identified as Jamsheed Ahmad Wagay, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wagay, a local inhabitant of Hakbara area of Hajin.
Police have registered FIR No. 15/2026 under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Police Station Hajin. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate in curbing the menace. [KNT]
