Kupwara, March 11: The Office of the District Development Commissioner Kupwara has accorded administrative approval to multiple development works under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) recommended by Member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh.

The approvals relate to water supply infrastructure projects in different areas of Kupwara district and procurement of a water tanker for Handwara division aimed at improving drinking water availability in rural localities.

According to official orders issued by the District Development Commissioner Kupwara, administrative approval has been granted for the providing, laying and fitting of 80 mm GI pipes for village Dardpora.

The project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 6.897 lakh and will be executed by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Division Kupwara.

In another order, the district administration approved the supply of a prefabricated 9-kilolitre capacity water tanker mounted on a truck chassis with cabin for the PHE Division Handwara.

The tanker procurement has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 30.08 lakh and will be executed by the Executive Engineer PHE Division Handwara.

Officials said the tanker is expected to strengthen the water supply mechanism in areas facing shortages, particularly during peak demand periods.

Meanwhile, another administrative approval has been issued for providing and fixing GI pipes to water supply infrastructure in Ladah Taki Mohallah of Panchayat Ladah.

The project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 2 lakh and will be executed by the Executive Engineer PHE Division Kupwara.

Officials said the projects are aimed at strengthening the drinking water supply network in the district and addressing local infrastructure gaps in rural areas.

The administrative approvals were issued subject to compliance with MPLADS guidelines, financial rules and procedural requirements.

According to the conditions laid down in the orders, the executing agencies must ensure that the works are technically vetted, properly tendered and completed within the approved cost.

The orders also mandate that geo-tagged photographs be taken before, during and after the execution of the works to ensure transparency and proper documentation.

Authorities have also directed that signboards displaying details of the works be installed at visible public locations before execution so that residents remain informed about the development projects.

Officials further said the works must not overlap with other government schemes and must be completed strictly as per the sanctioned estimates and specifications.

The district administration said the projects are intended to benefit local communities by improving access to safe drinking water and strengthening essential public infrastructure in the district. [KNT]
