The police received information about the killings during the early hours of Sunday. Following the double-murder, the wife of the accused levelled serious allegations of torture against him, saying that he was an alcoholic and would regularly beat her and deprive her of food.

They had a love marriage in 2014. However, the couple’s relationship became strained shortly thereafter. The woman, Reshma Chhetri, has also claimed that her husband had installed CCTV cameras all over the house, including inside his own room.

She alleged that she was subjected to violence by her husband whenever she attempted to leave for her parents’ place. Reshma also said that her husband would repeatedly ask him to leave with their son and that he would keep the daughters with him.

WIFE LEFT HOME, CAME BACK FOR DAUGHTERS
Reshma said that she was forced to leave the twins behind while she stayed at her parental home with her son as her husband had refused to let her take them along.

Talking to the media, she said that she returned after about nine months because it was becoming difficult to live without her daughters.

She further said that she was not allowed to enter her husband’s room. According to Reshma, her husband often said that he wanted to kill himself and the twin girls.

Speaking about the hours leading to the tragic murder of her daughters, she said that everything seemed normal the night before. She added that the family had dinner together, and then her husband took the twins to his room to sleep.

Reshma said she could see on the CCTV feed that her husband continued talking on the phone for a long time. At around 2.30 am, he took one of his daughters to the bathroom and returned to the room a short while later, Reshma recalled seeing on the CCTV monitor.

He then turned off the lights, she said. Reshma said there was no sound from the room after that. She said that she assumed that everyone was asleep inside the room. After that, Reshma said, she did not realise when her daughters were killed.

Upon receiving information about the murders, senior police officers immediately arrived at the scene and began an investigation. Reshma said that her husband himself informed the police about the crime.

The bodies of both girls were found inside the house, with deep cuts on their necks. A forensic team was rushed to the home to assist the investigators in gathering evidence.

The father of the two children has been arrested from the scene. He is being interrogated and efforts are underway to determine the motive behind the double-murder.

Both the bodies have been sent for postmortem. Police said that all necessary legal action is being taken in the case, and the accused will soon be presented before a court.

Senior police official Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that a thorough investigation into the case is underway. He said that law and order is currently normal in the area. (IT)
