April 29: In its relentless drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Police in Kulgam achieved another major success by apprehending five drug peddlers with contraband substances.
During naka checking, a person coming from YK Pora towards Qazigund tried to flee after noticing the police party. The alert naka party acted swiftly, tactfully apprehending him on the spot. After search, a narcotic substance resembling Heroin weighing 20 grams, wrapped in transparent polythene, was recovered from the right pocket of his trouser. The accused has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd. Ismaeel Bhat resident of Nishat, Srinagar.
In another incident, police party of police station Qazigund arrests one more drug peddler Ubaid Rashid Dar son of Abdul Rasheed Dar resident of Waghama Bijebhara and from his possession 26 grams of Heroin like contraband substance was recovered during naka checking at Barazulla crossing near Sangran Bridge.
Similarly, police party of Police Station Manzgam apprehended one drug peddler Shameem Ahmad Kalas son of Noor Mohd resident of Raiwattan carrying Charas powder like contraband weighing 580 grams in a vehicle (Auto load carrier) bearing registration no JK18C-7314 at Asnoor. The contraband was recovered and vehicle used in commission of crime was seized.
Moreover, another drug peddler Zahid Ahmad Wani son of Mohd Azad Wani resident of Malwan was arrested by police party of police station Devsar & from his possession officers present were able to recover 36 grams of Charas & 134 grams of Charas (in powder form).
Furthermore, another drug peddler Tariq Ahmad Ganie son of Nazir Ahmad Ganie resident of Frisal was apprehended by police party of police post Frisal during naka checking at Damidullah crossing and officers present were able to recover 20 grams of Charas & 1354 grams of Cannabis like contrabands from his possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigation is underway to unearth forward and backward linkages involved in the narcotics network.
