Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a fraud case involving alleged cheating on the pretext of providing land and government jobs.
According to the statement issued by CBK, the chargesheet in FIR No. 84/2022 under Section 420 RPC has been presented before the Court of Judge Small Causes Srinagar against Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, a resident of Astanpora, Tailbal in Hazratbal area of Srinagar.
The statement said that the case dates back to January 2019, when the accused allegedly induced the complainants to part with a substantial amount of money by offering to arrange Jammu Development Authority land in Jammu and secure government employment for their relatives. However, the accused neither delivered the promised land nor fulfilled the assurances regarding jobs.
During the course of investigation, it surfaced that the accused had deliberately misrepresented facts and dishonestly obtained money from the complainants through false promises, the statement said. It added that the evidence collected during the probe established the commission of the offence of cheating under Section 420 RPC.
The CBK statement further said that, upon completion of the investigation, a chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has advised the public to exercise caution while dealing with individuals offering land or employment in exchange for money. Citizens have been urged to report such fraudulent activities to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Abdul Waheed Shah, or lodge complaints through the official email channel.
