Uri, May 03 (GNS): Vehicular movement on the Uri–Baramulla highway was restored on Sunday after remaining suspended for around nine hours due to a major landslide at Lagama in Uri, in the aftermath of fresh rainfall, officials said.

The landslide, accompanied by heavy debris and mudslides, had completely blocked the road, forcing authorities to halt traffic on the route as a precautionary measure.

Officials told GNS that soon after the incident, men and machinery were pressed into service and clearance operations were launched on a war footing. “After sustained efforts, the debris was cleared and the road was made trafficable after nearly nine hours,” they said.

During the closure, the administration had issued a traffic advisory, urging commuters to avoid the affected stretch and follow designated diversions. Traffic was diverted via the Bandi–Paranpillan–Dachi route towards Uri to minimise inconvenience.

Officials added that the highway has now been reopened for vehicular movement, while commuters have been advised to exercise caution given the prevailing weather conditions. (GNS)
