Kulgam, May 03 : In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances including heroin and charas in three separate cases registered within 24 hours at Police Station Qazigund.
Acting on credible inputs, police registered FIR No. 108/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and laid a naka at Choimulla. During the operation, two accused — Hilal Ahmad Ganai of Kanispora Baramulla and Parvaz Ahmad Bhat of Wagoora Baramulla — were apprehended. A total of 50 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime, a Baleno (JK05P-3229), was also seized. Further legal proceedings have been initiated.
In another operation at Furrah, a team from Police Post Mirbazar intercepted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee. Upon search, 668.3 grams of charas powder-like substance was recovered. Accordingly, FIR No. 109/2026 under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund.
In a third incident, a naka party at Kurigam near the railway crossing apprehended another individual trying to escape. During search, 5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. FIR No. 110/2026 under the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway.
All accused persons have been taken into custody, and further investigation in all cases is in progress.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, reiterated the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace. He said the swift action within 24 hours reflects the alertness and dedication of the force. He urged the public, especially youth, to stay away from drugs and appealed to citizens to share information regarding drug-related activities.
Kulgam Police reaffirmed its resolve to continue strict action against drug peddlers to ensure a safe and drug-free society.(KNC)
