Police cracks down on drug trafficking and SOP violations in Anantnag; Drug peddler arrested, two medical shops sealed

May 07: In a continued and intensified drive against drug trafficking, substance abuse, and unlawful pharmaceutical practices, Police in Anantnag achieved significant success through separate actions conducted in Anantnag town and Utrasoo area.

A police party from Police General Bus Stand during naka checking at Tarbal Chee Bridge apprehended a suspected drug peddler identified as Kaiser Jeelani Bhat son of Ab Kabir Bhat resident of Kullar A/P Srinagar. During search, approximately 03 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody and the contraband substance was seized on the spot after following due legal procedures. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 131/2026 has been registered at the concerned police station and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in another action aimed at ensuring strict compliance with regulatory norms and preventing misuse of pharmaceutical substances, Police conducted a joint inspection of medical establishments in the Utrasoo area in coordination with officials from the Drug Control Department Anantnag.

During the inspection carried out by Police Post Utrasoo along with Drug Control Officers, two medical shops operating at village Kreeri, Utrasoo were found involved in discrepancies and violations of prescribed SOPs. Acting promptly on the observed irregularities, the concerned department sealed the shop Darul Shafa, owned by Bashir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Ahsan Bhat and, Bhat Medical Shop, owned by Irshad Ahmad Shah Son-in-law of Gh. Rasool Bhat, on the spot.

These actions form part of J&K Police’s sustained campaign to eradicate the menace of drugs and to ensure that all medical establishments operate strictly in accordance with the law and prescribed guidelines.

J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment towards safeguarding public health, maintaining strict vigilance against narcotics and regulated medicine violations, and appeals to the general public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling or unlawful pharmaceutical activities for prompt legal action.
