Today marks six years since Tanveer Ul Ahad left this temporary world, yet his absence still feels unreal. This is not merely a customary memoir written once every year in remembrance. Tanveer continues to live with us every day – in bitter sweet memories, conversations, values, old newsroom files, and in the countless lives he touched. Some people are never forgotten because their presence becomes part of people’s lives forever. Ofcoure, our beloved Tanveer is one among them.
The pain of his loss was never confined to the journalistic world alone. While many knew him for his journalistic excellence and his contribution to media, those close to him knew an even greater human being behind the profession. A humble, compassionate, human being deeply connected to people.
No one had imagined that someone so full of ambition, purpose, and potential would leave so early. His passing came during the horrific days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world itself was gripped by fear, uncertainty, and isolation. Amid those dark and restricted times came the heartbreaking news of Tanveer’s departure – a loss many still struggle to accept even today.
Whatever Tanveer achieved was the result of his sheer hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He built his journey from the ground up, eventually founding GNS, which became a trusted name in Kashmir’s media landscape, along with The Kashmir Glory newspaper. He believed journalism was a responsibility toward society. Every report he authored reflected sincerity, courage, and commitment to truth and public welfare. Yet despite his accomplishments, he remained humble and grounded. He helped people quietly, stood by the unheard, and never allowed recognition to overshadow his humanity.
Perhaps the most painful part of his loss is knowing how much more he still had to offer. His journey felt unfinished. He was still evolving, still dreaming, still building toward greater heights. The potential he carried was immense, and his absence continues to leave behind a silence difficult to fill. Even today, his legacy continues through the institutions he founded, the values he upheld, and the people he inspired. His name remains associated with integrity, dedication, and responsible journalism.
May the Almighty forgive his shortcomings, illuminate his grave with mercy and light, and grant him the highest place in Jannah!
You are deeply missed, Tanveer! Not only today, but every day.
