Ganderbal, May 13 : An oil tanker overturned along the Srinagar–Leh Highway Bypass in the Watlar area of Ganderbal district on Wednesday morning, resulting in an oil spill and prompting swift action from emergency response teams.
Officials said the tanker, bearing registration number PB02FB2307, reportedly lost control near the Watlar Bypass and turned turtle on the roadside.
According to officials, the driver fled from the scene soon after the accident.
The incident led to a major oil spill on the highway, triggering concerns over traffic disruption and safety risks for commuters travelling on the busy route.
Soon after the mishap, teams from Fire and Emergency Services along with other concerned departments rushed to the spot and launched operations to contain the spill and secure the area.
Authorities have initiated efforts to clear the affected stretch and regulate vehicular movement to avoid any further inconvenience.
No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident till the filing of this report.(KNC)
