May 13: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Shopian, during routine naka checking at Aaripora Turkwangam, a police party from Police Post Turkwangam apprehended a suspected person identified as Mohd Yousuf Sheikh son of Sanaullah Sheikh resident of Kangnu Turkwangam. During search, 928 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 72/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora.
Meanwhile in Anantnag, a Police party of Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler identified as Ashiq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Rasool Bhat resident of Pazalpora, Bijbehara, and recovered 505 grams of Charas powder-like substance from his possession. In this connection, FIR No. 125/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been taken up to ascertain backward and forward linkages involved in the narcotics network.
J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and urges the general public to cooperate in this noble mission. Citizens are requested to share any information related to drug abuse or drug peddling to the nearest police establishment.
