Ganderbal, May 23 : Body of a missing girl was retrieved from a power canal at Thune area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday after an extensive search operation by police and rescue teams.

Officials said Jammu and Kashmir Police Station Gund, along with SDRF Unit Gund, launched a massive search operation in the USHP-II Kangan power canal following concerns over the whereabouts of the girl.

The operation was carried out from Sumbal Bala to Kangan after the girl, a resident of Syed Basti Surfraw Gund, went missing on May 15.

After strenuous efforts and continuous searches, rescue teams recovered the body from the canal at Thune.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further legal proceedings.(KNC)
