Kupwara, May 24: A lightning strike amid adverse weather conditions claimed life of a youth and left another injured in Chandigam area of Lolab valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Abid Rahim Ganie (23), son of Abdul Rahim, while the injured youth, Faizan Rehman Dar (24), son of Abdul Rehman, is undergoing treatment. Both are residents of Chandigam Lolab.
Officials told Alfaaz – The Words that two youths were struck by lightning in the Chandigam area and were immediately taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sogam. Upon arrival, doctors declared Abid Rahim Ganie dead, while Faizan Rahman Dar, after receiving preliminary treatment, was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for advanced medical care.
Following legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to the family, officials added.
The incident occurred amid widespread hailstorm activity during the day. The severe weather has reportedly caused extensive damage to agricultural crops in several parts of the belt.
