Jammu, June 2:(KNC)Heavy rainfall accompanied by two cloudburst incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district triggered flash floods and disrupted road connectivity in several areas on Tuesday, officials said. No loss of life or major property damage has been reported so far.

According to officials, the cloudbursts occurred in the Gahan area of Sarthal and Machhipal, leading to a sudden surge in water flow and the accumulation of debris on key roads. The incidents affected routes connecting Sarthal, Gahan, Machhipal, Saroor and adjoining areas, hampering vehicular movement.

District authorities immediately launched restoration operations and pressed heavy machinery into service to clear debris and reopen blocked roads. Teams from various departments, including road construction and disaster management agencies, were deployed to the affected locations to restore normalcy.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar said that flash floods originated after a cloudburst in a forested region, causing debris-laden water to flow towards nearby habitations and road networks. While water entered some areas near residential settlements, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation with district officials and directed the administration to remain on high alert. He instructed authorities to ensure the swift restoration of roads, water supply schemes and other essential services, while keeping emergency response teams ready for any eventuality.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh also monitored the situation and said that district authorities had confirmed that there was no loss of life or property. Assessment teams from the Revenue Department, Police and Red Cross were dispatched to evaluate the affected areas and coordinate relief measures.

Meanwhile, the district administration has issued a weather advisory, warning residents to stay away from nallahs, streams and other vulnerable locations as further rainfall could trigger additional flash floods or landslides. A 24×7 control room has been activated to monitor the situation and respond to emergencies.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow official advisories until weather conditions improve.(KNC)
