June 09: In a major crackdown against illegal mining activities, J&K Police seized 11 vehicles, including 7 tippers, 3 tractors, and 1 JCB machine, during separate operations in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts. Legal proceedings have been initiated and fines imposed under relevant provisions of law.

In Baramulla, police intercepted a JCB machine engaged in unauthorized extraction of mining material at Dever Yakhmanpora and imposed a fine of Rs 17,544, which has been deposited into the Government exchequer. In a separate operation conducted by Police Station Kunzer, three tippers and two tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were seized. An FIR No. 75/2026 has been registered under relevant provisions law, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Police in Ganderbal seized four tippers and one tractor for illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals within the jurisdictions of Police Stations Lar, Safapora and Gund. The matter was referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under the applicable legal provisions.

Police reiterated their commitment to protecting natural resources and the environment from unlawful exploitation and urged citizens to report illegal mining activities to the nearest police establishment.
