Kathua, June 24: Four pilgrims sustained serious injuries after a passenger vehicle carrying devotees to the revered Sukrala Mata shrine met with an accident near Dingi-Simbli in the Billawar area of Kathua district on Wednesday.
Officials said the vehicle, bearing registration number JK21B-7776, was carrying pilgrims from Samba towards Sukrala Mata when the driver reportedly lost control, resulting in the accident.
Preliminary reports indicate that four passengers suffered serious injuries in the mishap.
Soon after the incident, local residents, police and officials of the Billawar administration rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The injured were evacuated from the accident site and shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Billawar for treatment.
Authorities said the condition of the injured was being monitored and further details regarding their identities were awaited.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
The Sukrala Mata shrine in Billawar attracts a large number of devotees, particularly during the summer months, with pilgrim traffic witnessing a noticeable increase on the route. [KNT]
