Srinagar, June 25 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the Gulmarg gondola services have resumed after all maintenance procedures were thoroughly reviewed and certified to meet the required safety standards.
Speaking after the reopening of the gondola in Gulmarg, the Chief Minister said the administration ensured that all maintenance work was completed and certified before taking the decision to restart operations, prioritizing the safety of visitors.
“We reviewed and certified our maintenance procedures, and once everything met the required standards, we decided to restart the gondola,” Omar Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister also noted that despite concerns over a possible decline in tourist footfall during the temporary suspension of gondola services, Gulmarg continued to witness a steady flow of visitors.
“We had feared that tourism would decline and Gulmarg would become empty, but that did not happen. Visitors kept coming, and tourism continued,” he said, expressing satisfaction over the resilience of the tourism sector.
The reopening of the gondola is expected to further boost tourist activity in Gulmarg, one of Jammu and Kashmir’s premier tourist destinations, particularly during the ongoing summer season.(KNC)
