New Delhi, June 27 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against 11 accused persons in connection with a terror conspiracy linked to an offshoot of the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), alleging that the group was working to expand its extremist network in West Bengal and several northeastern states.

According to an official NIA statement, the chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The investigation revealed that the conspiracy was orchestrated through Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the proscribed JMB, with the objective of spreading the outfit’s extremist ideology in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and other northeastern states. The agency alleged that the accused were involved in radicalising vulnerable youth, promoting extremist propaganda and expanding the organisation’s network in India.

The NIA further stated that senior JMB member Imam Mahmud Habibullah had established IMK to further the banned outfit’s agenda in India. The chargesheet alleges that the accused held secret meetings, conducted religious indoctrination programmes, circulated extremist literature and used digital platforms to spread anti-India propaganda while encouraging allegiance to the IMK/JMB leadership.

Among the key accused named in the chargesheet are Nasimuddin, alleged to have spearheaded IMK activities in Assam, and Jagir Mia, who was reportedly leading the outfit’s operations in Tripura.

During the investigation, the agency recovered incriminating documents, electronic devices and digital records, which it said formed crucial evidence against the accused.

The NIA said that further investigation into the case RC-01/2026/NIA/GUW is continuing.(KNC)
