Srinagar, July 5 : The body of a 13-year-old boy, who had drowned in the River Jhelum near the Lasjan area of Srinagar, was retrieved by rescue teams on Sunday evening after an extensive search operation, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as Lukmaan Malik (13), son of Javaid Ahmad Malik, a resident of Lasjan.

They said the boy had accidentally drowned in the river on Saturday, following which rescue teams launched a massive operation to trace him. After continuous efforts, his body was retrieved from the river on Sunday evening.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and further legal proceedings are underway. (JKNS)
