Says Western Disturbance continues to fuel widespread rainfall; streams and rivers remain swollen after days of heavy rain
Srinagar, July 23: A fresh spell of rainfall has developed over parts of the Jammu region and is expected to move towards south Kashmir in the coming hours, while another spell of rain is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng told news agency JKNS that, the fresh rain system, active as of 8:00 a.m., is moving in a northeastward direction and is expected to mainly impact Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and the Chenab Valley over the next few hours.
He said that as the weather system progresses, it may spread into parts of south Kashmir, where rainfall is likely to intensify due to favourable atmospheric conditions.
According to the forecaster, another spell of rain is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir after the present system moves away.
Keng said the ongoing Western Disturbance continues to play a major role in the prevailing weather conditions by promoting deeper cloud development and enhanced moisture incursion over the region, thereby sustaining the wet weather.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the past several days, resulting in a sharp rise in water levels of rivers, streams and nallahs, with authorities continuing to advise people to remain cautious and avoid vulnerable areas. (JKNS)
