Zulfkar Razatul Hussain, Bashir Ahmad Zakir, Ghulam Nabi Among Prominent Leaders Who Quit PDP; Cite Disappointment Over Party Functioning
Kulgam, July 31: In a major political setback for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in south Kashmir, several senior party leaders from Kulgam district on Friday announced their resignation from the party’s basic membership with immediate effect, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s functioning and alleged neglect of grassroots workers.
The resignations were led by senior PDP youth leader Zulfkar Razatul Hussain, who, along with several prominent office-bearers, formally severed ties with the party through a joint press statement.
The leaders who resigned include Zulfkar Razatul Hussain (Youth Leader, PDP), Bashir Ahmad Zakir (Block President, PDP Devsar), Ghulam Nabi (Block President, PDP Qaimoh), Mohd Maqbool Mir (Senior Leader and Former Block President, PDP Qaimoh), and Yawar Ahmad Ganie (Block Secretary, Youth PDP, Qaimoh).
In their joint statement, the leaders said the decision was taken after “careful thought and deep disappointment” over the manner in which the party has been functioning in recent times.
They alleged that the dedication, hard work and sincere efforts of grassroots workers were neither recognised nor respected, while their repeated concerns and constructive suggestions continued to be ignored by the party leadership.
“We entered politics with the sole aim of serving the people with honesty, transparency and commitment. However, under the present circumstances, we believe it is no longer possible for us to continue our political journey within the PDP,” the statement said.
The resigning leaders also expressed gratitude to their supporters, party workers and well-wishers for their unwavering support throughout their political journey.
Reaffirming their commitment to public service, they said their resignation from the PDP would not affect their dedication towards the welfare, dignity and development of the people of the region.
The development is being seen as a significant setback for the PDP in Kulgam, where the departure of several key organisational leaders could have political implications ahead of future electoral and organisational activities. (KNC)
