Srinagar, Aug 09: A suspected extramarital relationship has emerged as a major angle in the alleged conspiracy uncovered by Ganderbal Police to falsely implicate a poultry businessman in a narcotics case.
According to officials, the businessman had married last year, while investigators found that his wife had allegedly remained in contact with a former lover. Police now suspect that the former lover, possibly with the woman’s knowledge or involvement, plotted to have drugs planted on the husband and subsequently implicate him in a narcotics case.
The suspected motive, investigators believe, was to remove the husband as an obstacle to the alleged relationship.
The case initially surfaced after Police Station Safapora received information about a courier containing drugs. Police intercepted the consignment, dispatched from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and allegedly recovered cocaine, charas and diclofenac tablets.
The husband has told investigators that he had been contacted from an unknown number and was led to believe that he was receiving poultry-feed samples. Instead, the parcel allegedly contained narcotic substances.
Following the emerging leads, Ganderbal Police detained a suspect from Zainakot, Srinagar. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed his involvement in the purported conspiracy and provided leads concerning other suspected persons.
Police are now examining the roles of the businessman’s wife, her alleged former lover and other suspected conspirators, including a person in Kanpur believed to be connected with the procurement and dispatch of the consignment.
“Investigators are working to establish whether the drugs were deliberately sent to the businessman as part of a plan to falsely implicate him, as well as determine the precise motive and extent of involvement of each suspect,” officials added.
