Srinagar, Aug 19: An intense spell of rainfall triggered minor flash flooding in Haknar and Gund areas of Ganderbal district on Wednesday, while Shopian recorded extremely heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and several parts of the Jammu plains witnessed heavy rainfall.
The flash flooding in Haknar and Gund followed intense rainfall. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported from the affected areas so far.
Shopian experienced an intense spell of rainfall along with gusty winds, adding to the weather activity already being witnessed across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu plains also received a heavy spell of rain during the early morning hours. The rainfall has increased the possibility of a rapid rise in water levels in streams and rivers, with Kathua currently assessed to face the highest risk, followed by Samba.
The weather situation remains unstable across Jammu and Kashmir, with isolated to scattered thundershowers and a risk of flash flooding at vulnerable locations reported in the weather assessment.
Isolated to scattered thundershowers are possible across parts of the region during the late morning and afternoon, with high-intensity showers capable of producing flash flooding at vulnerable locations. [KNT]
