Jammu, Aug 31 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday produced charge-sheet against a Junior Assistant posted in the office of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Manjakote for misappropriation of mid-day meal ration.
In a handout to GNS, the ACB said that it produced charge-sheet in case FIR No. 26/2018 under sections 5(1)(c), 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C Act Svt. 2006 BK, Section 465, 468, 471, 201 & 120-B RPC against Mohd. Farooq, then Jr. Assistant in the office of the ZEO Manjakote, before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Rajouri.
The case was registered on 28-12-2018 in P/S VOJ (now ACB-J) on the outcome of verification which revealed misappropriation of rice measuring 200 quintals approx pertaining to 4th quarter for the year 2014-15 of Mid Day Meal Zone Manjakote by then ZEO Manjakote and his dealing hand Mohd Farooq I/C Mid Day Meal in connivance with Mumtaz Hussain, storekeeper Manjakote.
During investigation, record was scrutinized and after obtaining FSL opinion, it was prima facie established that Shah Nawaz Khan, then ZEO Manjakote (now deceased) and Mohd Farooq, Jr. Assistant (dealing hand) by way of abuse of their official positions got prepared fake/forged and fabricated indent/authority letters by manipulating official records and misappropriated 256.40 quintals of rice of MDM scheme worth Rs 8,03,557.60 along with an amount of Rs 4,61,578 on account of cooking cost.
The officials said that the accused officers by way of abuse of their official positions caused loss to the state exchequer to the tune of Rs 12,65,135.60.
Since accused Shah Nawaz Khan then ZEO Manjakote has expired, sanction for launching prosecution of in-service public servant namely Mohd Farooq was obtained from competent authority and chargesheet was produced before the court on 31.08.2026.
The next date of hearing has been fixed for 29.09.2026.(GNS)
