Anantnag, September 12: In a significant move to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking, Anantnag Police on Saturday launched a major anti-narcotics cordon and search operation (CASO) at multiple locations in Waghama, an area identified by authorities as a hotspot for illicit drug activities.
The coordinated operation was carried out simultaneously at 20 locations across Waghama, with police teams conducting searches aimed at tracing individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.
During the operation, 13 suspected drug peddlers were detained for questioning, officials said. Their questioning is expected to help investigators gather further information about the local network involved in the distribution and supply of narcotic substances.
The operation forms part of the police department’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, with a particular focus on dismantling the supply chain and identifying those facilitating the movement of narcotics at the grassroots level.
Police said the action underscores their zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling, as security agencies continue to step up intelligence-based operations against individuals and networks involved in the illegal trade.
The latest crackdown also comes amid sustained efforts by law-enforcement agencies to prevent narcotics from reaching young people and vulnerable sections of society.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to taking stringent action against drug-related activities and strengthening anti-narcotics operations across the district, with the broader objective of building a “Drug-Free Anantnag.”(KNC)
