Srinagar, Sep 22 (GNS): The Food and Drug Administration J&K has intensified food safety checks across Srinagar city and inspected 20 street food establishments.
According to GNS, the enforcement teams conducted inspections at Nishat, Maki Point, Nehru Park, LD Hospital, Khyam and other locations to check compliance under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, especially sanitary and hygienic requirements under Schedule-4.
Officials said a special RUCO (Repurpose Used Cooking Oil) drive was also conducted among street vendors.
During the drive, 08 Food Business Operators were compounded under Section 69 of FSS Act for violating hygiene norms and a total fine of Rs 8,000 was imposed.
Around 45 litres of used / re-used edible cooking oil found unfit for consumption was lifted through authorised RUCO aggregator for disposal.
The FBOs were directed to strictly adhere to prescribed limits for reuse of cooking oil and dispose it only through authorised aggregators.
On-spot awareness was also given to vendors regarding safe food handling, personal hygiene, proper storage and management of used oil.
FDA J&K said regular enforcement and awareness drives will continue across Srinagar with focus on street food and high-footfall areas.
