Srinagar, Sep 25: Flash floods and cloudbursts damaged more than 24,000 residential structures and over 5,000 roads across Jammu and Kashmir during 2025-26 and 2026-27, the government informed the Legislative Assembly.
According to a written reply furnished by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, 23,470 residential structures and 5,084 roads were damaged in Jammu division.
Udhampur recorded the highest number of damaged houses at 6,997, followed by Rajouri with 4,781 and Jammu with 2,718.
In Kashmir division, 946 residential structures and 289 roads were reported damaged, besides 513 water-supply schemes.
The disaster-related damage also affected agriculture. Around 99,300 hectares of crop area was affected in Jammu division and 7,021 hectares in Kashmir division.
Jammu district accounted for around 30,728 hectares of affected crop area, while Kulgam and Budgam recorded 3,472 hectares and 1,764 hectares respectively in Kashmir division.
The government also reported the loss of 5,244 livestock across the two divisions.
It said infrastructure damaged during 2025-26 had been temporarily restored and permanent restoration was under way. Infrastructure affected during 2026-27 had been partially restored, with permanent restoration work continuing.
The government said no special financial package or separate relief package had been sanctioned for rehabilitation, adding that assistance admissible under SDRF norms was being provided to affected persons.
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund was also used for structural damage in affected areas, including assistance released to beneficiaries in Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri. [KNT]
