Kulgam, Nov 30: Concerns over the structural integrity of the Chambgund bridge in Kulgam have led the Roads and Building Department’s Design Inspection Quality Control team to recommend its immediate closure to two-way traffic.

This decision follows a thorough inspection prompted by local complaints about the bridge’s instability and visible stretching.

Built in 2012, the bridge’s reliability has been called into question, prompting Assistant Executive Engineer R&B, Kulgam, Prince Dangroo, to restrict traffic to single-lane usage. “Only one vehicle is currently permitted to cross the bridge at a time,” he told CNS.

“The inspection team will submit a comprehensive report detailing necessary remedies. We will take prompt measures based on the team’s recommendations to ensure public safety,” Dangroo assured.

He said the temporary closure aims to prevent potential accidents and safeguard commuters until essential repairs or reinforcements are made. (CNS)
