Baramulla, July 10: A court in Pattan on Friday convicted a man in a cheque bounce case and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment besides directing him to pay ₹5,39,600 as compensation to the complainant.

The judgment was delivered by the Court of the Sub-Judge, Pattan, presided over by Anjeet Singh, in a complaint filed by Mohammad Aslam Bhat, son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat, a resident of Nihalpora, Pattan.

The court convicted Mohammad Abbas Waza, son of Mohammad Sadiq Waza, a resident of Kripalpora, Singhpora, in connection with the dishonour of cheques amounting to ₹3,80,000.

According to the case record, the complaint was instituted on February 4, 2019, after the cheques issued by the accused in favour of the complainant were dishonoured, leading to legal proceedings.

After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced the accused to one year’s imprisonment and directed him to pay ₹5,39,600 as compensation to the complainant.

Advocates Towseef Gani and Muneer Ahmed Dar represented the complainant during the trial. [KNT]
