Srinagar: Consumer Court Kupwara on Thursday adjudicated a plea wherein the Coram levied a fine in tune of rupees one lac on Power Department for executing a self-made and frivolous agreement of a local from Kuligam area in the district.
As learnt by Alfaaz – The Words, one Mohammad Aslam Sheikh, son of Yar Mohammad Sheikh of Kataria Mohalla Kuligam moved to District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Consumer Court) Kupwara with a plea, maintaining that he has received a ‘frivolous bill’ by the Power Department.
The complainant maintained in his plea that he received the electric bill on the house he dismantled some ten years before and has been ever since putting up at a relative’s house with his mother.
Expressing his surprise over receiving the bill on the house which on date is merely left with plinths, the complainant has maintained that a bill was generated and he asked to realise the Rupees 49,578/- by the department concerned on the name of one Mohammad Aslam Katari, son of Yar Mohammad Katari, resident of Nard Kuligam. The complaint contended his name being Mohammad Aslam Sheikh, son of Yar Mohammad Sheikh, resident of Kuligam, Kupwara.
Despite approaching the XEN/AEE/Inspector of Power Department, the complainant didn’t got any positive response and in turn he was pressurized to pay the electric fee in tune of rupees 49,578/-, even as his mother having deposited rupees 2600/- with much efforts – for a connection which is two kilometers from his current residence.
The officials of the electric department, when made to appear before the Court, couldn’t justify their stand in the imminent matter.
The Complainant even produced three witnesses, who all made statements and gave in written in favour of the aggrieved party.
Taking the stated facts into consideration, the Coram headed by Peerzada Qousar Hussain with Nyla Hussain as member, directed the Opposite Party (Power Department) to refund the deposited amount of rupees 2600/-, besides paying the Complainant an amount of rupees one lac, within four weeks, as compensation for putting him into mental agony and hardships.
