Srinagar, Jan 7 (GNS): Air traffic resumed after four days of suspension while Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, remained closed, officials said on Thursday.
“All facilities have been restored and flight operations has been resumed after heavy snow fall. It is result of many agencies worked proactively amid extreme weather ,” a senior officer at Srinagar airport told GNS.
Meanwhile the authorities said that the Jammu-Srinagar highway shall remain closed for traffic on January 8 due to the accumulation of snow around Jawahar Tunnel and landslides at several places en route the thoroughfare.
“Tomorrow ( January 8) no vehicular movement shall be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar highway from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa in view of landslides and shooting stones at Samroli, Cafeteria Morh and slippery road condition from Jawahar Tunnel to Zig (Qazigund)” a traffic department official told GNS. Over 4000 vehicles are still stranded at several places along the highway, reports said.
Mughal road, connecting Shopian and Poonch districts, also remained closed. Srinagar-Leh highway has been officially closed on the orders by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on December 30. (GNS)
