Kupwara, Nov 17 (GNS): Even after a decade since the JKPCC undertook construction work on the Kanthpora-Lolab bridge, the locals in the area however have been waiting with a bated breathe to see completion of the project.

A delegation of locals told GNS that they have been facing huge inconvenience as their commuting has become difficult amid the inordinate delay on the main connecting link with Lolab valley.

They said that the construction work on the bridge was initiated a decade before, however it has been suspended frequently due to one or the other reason by the department concerned.

Taking a dig at the J&K Projects Construction, they said that the department has been ‘highly insensitive’ towards this genuine concern, adding that “despite time to time representations the department concerned has responded poorly.”

“Amid this lackadiasical approach, the school-going children and old folk have been worst sufferers as they face difficulties to cross over the under construction structure”, they said.

Meanwhile President Lolab Youth Organization Er Mudasir on the occasion said that the uncalled for delay in completion of the project has proved detrimental to the whole populace in general and to the students in particular.

“During rains or snow, we fear for the safety of our children who have to attend schools and such we are forced to make them sit back”, Er Mudasir said adding “This process has been going on for almost a decade now, while the department concerned is lying in a deep slumber.”

The residents in the meantime have appealed district administration that the work on bridge should be taken on an immediate basis to alleviate the sufferings of local populace. (GNS)
