Srinagar: A high alert has been reportedly issued in Kashmir following an attack on two Punjabi workers in summer Capital Srinagar on Wednesday evening.

Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Scroll quoted an official as saying that security has been strengthened throughout Kashmir, with extra surveillance on the highways. “Checkpoints have been established at various locations, especially at the entry points of the city and other districts.”

The official, as per the report said that security forces are conducting random vehicle checks and frisking individuals to thwart any subversive activities.

“Authorities have urged security agencies to remain vigilant as to ensure law and order is maintained thereby preserving peace in the region”, said the official.

In the meantime a manhunt is underway to apprehend the attackers who targeted the non-local duo, resulting in their death.

Pertinent to mention here that on Wednesday evening, Amritpal Singh, a 31-year-old from Amritsar, Punjab, was fatally shot by terrorists in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar. His colleague, Rohit, aged 25, sustained severe injuries and eventually succumbed at a tertiary care hospital in Srinagar on Thursday morning.
