December 20: As a part of its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police in Shopian have arrested a drug peddler and recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
A Police party of Police Post Keegam at a checkpoint established at New colony Keegam arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Yousuf Sheikh resident of Audoora Rampathri. During search, charas like substance weighing approximately 8.800Kgs were recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 274/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated to trace the forward and backward linkages of the accused person and to unearth the broader network involved in the trade.
J&K Police reiterates its commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and appeals to the general public to cooperate in this noble mission. Citizens are requested to share any information regarding drug abuse or peddling to the nearest police establishment.
