Required Men & Machinery Moved Within 10 Minutes, Monitoring Operation On Minute-To-Minute Basis: DC Kupwara

Kupwara, Nov 18 (GNS): An uncle-nephew duo continue to remain trapped inside a well at Hatmulla area in Nagri of Kupwara district, even as the rescue operation is about to enter seventh hour.
Local sources told GNS that a minor boy namely Firdous Ahmad Mir, son of Nazir Ahmad Mir fell into a well at Hatmulla at around 4:10 PM, while he had purportedly went to fetch a cricket ball from the water source. “Soon after the news of his falling into the well spread, his Uncle Mohammad Shafi Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir, went inside in a bid to rescue the minor. However both of them got trapped as a mudslide occurred in the meantime”, they said.
Meanwhile police alongside, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services Department launched a massive rescue at the site.
“The rescue operation is getting hampered as there have been frequent mudslides at the site”, they further said.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Doifode Sagar Dattatray termed the operation tough and sensitive. “Men and machinery which included four JCBs were moved within ten minutes of the incident”, he said, adding, “Three ambulances and a team of doctors are also on standby.”
He said SDRF, Tehsildar and DySP besides several other top district functionaries also remain present at the spot.
The duo is being administered with glucose water and their parameters are being continuously evaluated to ensure their safety, he told GNS.
“We had to dig a side tunnel to ensure their safe evacuation and to avoid any injuries to them”, DC said adding, “it was one of a sensitive and tough kind of operation.”
Scores of locals have gathered at the site, hoping and praying for safety of the uncle-nephew duo, a local said. (GNS)
