Srinagar: A youth from Kaka Sarai locality in central Kashmir’s Srinagar is trailblazing on the maiden folk music reality show ‘Bharat Ka Amrit Kalash’ being hosted by Doordarshan (DD National). Owais Bhat, an enthusiastic youth bestowed by nature with a melodious voice, has been not only taking the folk music of his homeland to the national arena but to the international audience alike.  

Bhat’s parents say that their ward has inclination towards music from the very beginning and once completing his studies from a local school in Srinagar, he went to Jaipur to pursue further education in Music where he got himself enrolled for B.Music. During the time of his education, Bhat, according to his parents, would frequently perform on stage and garner awards and appreciation more often than not.

“Our son had to face a lot of difficulties during the journey, but we were always there for him to provide him with the required support,” said Bhat’s parents.    

Expressing their enthusiasm about their son performing on India’s biggest folk music reality show, ‘Bharat Ka Amrit Kalash’, the buoyed parents said that it has been a dream come true to see their son performing on such a huge platform.

“This show holds much importance for the fact that each state in India has nominated one each artist to represent his/her State/UT and seeing him performing on behalf of Jammu and Kashmir means a lot for us,” they said.

 Detailing out about the selection of Bhat for the mega show, the parents said that their son was called for auditions in Mumbai, where he performed much to the satisfaction of the jury to ensure his selection in the show.

“Such a huge platform of folk artists from across the country, where our son after securing selection in Top 72 went on to excel and make it to Top 37.”

The folk music show, as learnt, is being produced and mentored by renowned Bollywood singer Kailash Kher alongside known Ghazal singer Gayatri Asokan, Singer Sneha Khanwalkar and Debojit Saha.

Admitting that to feature on top isn’t going to be easy, the parents said that their son is working with much dedication and enthusiasm to earn a name and fame for himself and his homeland Jammu and Kashmir.  (With Inputs from Mohsin Altaf)
